Roger D. Swigart, 69, of
Galesburg, Illinois died at 10:23 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at
OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born January 5,
1948 in Galesburg, the son of Robert C. and Lois Maxine (Betts)
Swigart. He married Marlene Likes on October 9, 1993, in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife
of nearly 25 years, Marlene; three sons, Adrian (and Cherie)
Blackwell of Eldridge, Iowa and Bryan (and Jessica) Taylor and Tyrone
(and Felisa) Taylor, both of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Adrianna,
Amira, Story, Isaiah, Ryleigh, and Kane; and brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Milo and Betsy Likes of Galesburg. He was preceded in
death by his parents; a brother, Robert C. Swigart; and a sister,
Cora Ellen Swigart.
Roger helped open the
Galesburg Big Lots Store and continued to work there for 14 years.
He worked several other jobs over the years. He graduated from
Galesburg High School in 1966. Roger was a member of Faith Bible
Fellowship Church. He loved sports, especially the St. Louis
Cardinals.
Roger served in the United
States Air Force for four years during the Vietnam War, as a member
of the Military Police
Visitation will be 5 to 7
p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg
Chapel. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel with Rev. LeRoy
Torres officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
