Gerald Lucas

Gerald Lucas passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at his home at East Bay Nursing Center in Largo, Florida. Gerald was born on January 16, 1925 and adopted later by Matilda and John Lucas. He is survived by nieces and nephews Terrye Lucas of Chico, California, Betty Lucas of Polk City, Iowa, John (Angi) Lucas of Abingdon, Illinois, Colleen Babcock of Monmouth, Illinois and Mike Lucas of Orange, California. Also surviving are many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

  Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother John William Lucas of Abingdon, Illinois, and longtime companion Dorothy Podolle.

  Uncle Gerald will be remembered for his sense of humor and teasing manner. He also loved to tend plants and was waiting to receive a new African Violet, when they were in season. He easily made friends with those who cared for him at East Bay and with the other residents. He had served as chair for the resident council there. He kept up with all the caregiver’s families. When we visited him, he would take us around and introduce us to all the staff.

  Cremation will be accorded.  A family memorial service will be held at a future date.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
