Lilly A. Ross

Lilly A. Ross, age 67, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:32 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at her residence. 

She was born on December 29, 1947 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Bessie L.Starky. She was reared and educated in Monmouth, attending Harding, Central Jr. High School, and Monmouth High School, graduating in the Class of 1966. Lilly also attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg with a major in physiology. On March 25, 1970, Lilly married Earl R. Ross in Monmouth and he preceded her in death on June 13, 1996. She worked at School District #205 in the custodial department. Lilly was known for her volunteer efforts on the O.T.T.O Board at Oak Terrace Apartments. She loved camping, boating, fishing, baking, cooking and decorating cakes. Lilly also loved crocheting. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Monmouth. She loved children and being with little people. Lilly had a very giving and caring heart for those she was with. She was also an avid fan of Elvis Presley. 

Lilly is survived by two sons; Earl R. (Erica) Ross, Jr. of Maquon, Illinois and "Willie" (Sara Graves) Ross of Rock Island, IL., three sisters; Barbara Farrington, Freda (Ron) Deford, and Kim (Bill) Nichols all of Monmouth, IL. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, one son and one daughter.


A funeral service is planned for 10:30 am on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service. Interment will follow at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
