Edna F. “Petie” Payne

Edna F. “Petie” Payne, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:00 A.M., Monday, May 18, 2015 at her niece’s home in Galesburg, Illinois.

Edna was born on October 31, 1923 in Lucerne, Missouri, the daughter of James H. and Pearl E. Sprague Fields. She married Tom Payne on October 29, 1957 in Reno Nevada. They spent most of their life in Northern California. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1990.

While Edna and Tommie weren’t able to have children, they enjoyed all the children of their family and helped raise a few of them. She was an outgoing and caring person and she and her husband were involved in many service organizations. She also was an excellent seamstress and was a caregiver in her later years.

She was in office work for 35 years and later worked in rehab at the research hospital. Edna was a member of the Nevada Christian Church and also attended church at the towers.

She moved to Galesburg in 2006 where she would live out her days with family and friends. She will always be remembered as this tiny little women with a great big heart and a quick wit. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Edna is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. She was awaiting the birth of another great great niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a niece, three sisters, and three brothers.

Per her wishes she will be cremated and will be buried with her husband in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California. No services will be held locally. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or donor’s choice.
