Father Joseph Michael Presley

Father Joseph Michael Presley, IC, 54, of Galesburg, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in the Emergency Room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born on September 8, 1960 in Newport News, VA the son of William and Carolyn (Hertzler) Presley, They both survive of Chisholm, MN; as do sisters, Diann (Kieth) Harman of Harrisonburg, VA, Susan (Dale) White of International Falls, MN, Cahterine (Scott) Elmore of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Timothy (Fae) Presley of Skandia, MI, Alan (Jennifer Feist) Presley of Bramble, MN, and Raymond Presley of Chisholm, MN; four nieces, four nephews, two great nephews, and one great niece. He was preceded in death by and joining in Heaven, maternal grandparents, Milford and Ada (Hostetter) Hertzler, paternal grandparents, William and Addie Mae (Romines) Presley.

He joined the US Army in 1984. He was honorably discharged in 1989.

As a member of the Institute of Charity, the Rosminians, Father Joseph made his profession of perpetual vows on September 29, 2000. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 2001 in Peoria by Bishop John J. Myers. He celebrated his first Mass at Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg on May 27, 2001. Father Joseph lovingly served the parishes of Sacred Heart, Abingdon, St. Patrick’s and Corpus Christi, Galesburg as assistant pastor until his death.

Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Corpus Christi Church, with a visitation following from 4-7:30 p.m. The rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Father William T. Miller, IC will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Church, 273 S. Prairie St., Galesburg, St. Patrick's Church, 858 S. Academy St., Galesburg, Sacred Heart Church, 506 N. Main St., Abingdon or to the Institute of Charity, 2327 W. Heading Ave, West Peoria, IL 61604 . Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
