Lana Jean Swing


 
Lana Jean Swing, 54, of Galesburg, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 in the emergency room at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Lana was born September 22, 1961 in Moline, the daughter of Paul Roger Senn and Linda Lou Woodworth.  She married Charles A. Griffin on May 23, 1981.  They had two children, Hope Lynn (Adam) Neal of Monmouth and Martin (Signe) Griffin of Denmark.  He preceded her in death on September 11, 1996.  She later married Donald R. Swing on December 5, 1998.  Lana gained custody of her nephew, Journey Senn whom she was raising.  Lana is also survived by two additional nephews and two nieces;  her parents, Paul R. Senn and Linda Groom both of Galesburg; one brother, Roger A. Senn of Moline; and  four grandchildren, Haylee Neal, Liam Neal, Alva Griffin, and Levi Griffin. 
Lana graduated from Blackhawk College with a degree in nursing.  Lana worked as a Registered Nurse for many years in the Galesburg area, including Cottage Hospital, Marigold Health Care, Heartland Health Care, Galesburg Terrace, and Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Geneseo.    Recently, Lana was working on obtaining her Master’s Degree. 
Lana enjoyed antiques, especially Victorian furniture.  She also worked as Mary Kay Consultant for a time.  Lana loved attending church and was active for many years at the Moline Gospel Temple and Calvary Assembly of God where she taught Sunday school and helped with women’s ministries.    She enjoyed going on walks and loved her family deeply.  Lana loved to have tea parties with her grandchildren.   She became a nurse because she loved helping people and will always be remembered for her kind and gentle bedside manner with her patients. 
Cremation rites will be accorded.  Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2015 at the First Church of the Open Bible.  A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.  Pastor Bob Malone will officiate.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
