Wanda Lucille Wessels

Wanda Lucille Wessels, 90, of Galesburg, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the home of her daughter.

Wanda was born November 18, 1924 in Galesburg, the daughter of Frank Cornelius and Pearl Amanda Kennedy Stiarwalt. Wanda married Bernard Wessels on June 24, 1942 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1977. Wanda is survived by two sons, Ronald Wessels of Rio Rancho, NM and Robert L. Wessels of Lake St. Louis, MO; six daughters, Kathleen Herslow of Arizona, Marjorie (John) Wilson of Chandler, AZ, Joyce (Charles) Allen of Champlain, MN, Patricia (Glen) Gustafson of Galesburg, Teresa (Michael) Thompson of Galesburg, and Amy (Bryan) Jehling of Tempe, AZ; 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph Wessels in 2002; three brothers; and one sister.

Wanda worked at Maytag for many years, retiring in 1990. She was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Ladies of Mary, and Church Women United. She enjoyed oil painting and hosted a group of fellow painters in her home. Wanda enjoyed baking and was an excellent cake decorator.

The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. A visitation will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
