M. Joanne Klossing, age 81, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away at 10:11 pm on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on July 12, 1934 in Oquawka, Illinois, the daughter of Gillette B. and Marjorie M. (Noble) Dixon. Joanne was reared in Oquawka and graduated from G & O High School with the class of 1952. On July 23, 1954, she married E. Dean Klossing in Oquawka, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2012. Joanne first started work as a telephone operator in her hometown of Oquawka. She then worked for 28 years as the school secretary for P.H. Miller Elementary School in Plano, Illinois. Joanne enjoyed crafting, decorating, antiquing, and refinishing furniture. In her early years, she enjoyed sewing many of her own clothes and later, designing and sewing quilts. Joanne is survived by one daughter; Lisa (David) Brokaw of Biggsville, IL, two sons; John (Debbie) Klossing of Plano, IL and Mark (Mary) Klossing of Sandwich, IL, two sisters; Colleen Dixon of Dahinda, IL and Joyce Adair of Kirkwood, IL, two brothers; Don (Pat) Dixon of Burlington, IA and Les (Sue) Dixon of Geneva, IL. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, sisters Elaine Brokaw and Karen S. Dixon.
A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Biggsville Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established to purchase a new television and equipment at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
