Daniel E. “Dan” Haas

Daniel E. “Dan” Haas, 64, of Galesburg, took his “last flight” on Oct 31, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 20, 1951, in Galesburg, the son of Eugene Grover and Frances Louise (Wright) Haas. He married Victoria “Vicky” Sundberg in 1975 in Galesburg. He later married Laurie L. “Crisman” Haas on August 5, 1995 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Laurie; five Children, Daniel E. “Danny” Haas of Galesburg, Tory (and Brad) Suhomske of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Christopher (and Nichole) Crisman of Wilmington, Illinois, Jason Harrold (and Heather Doolin) of Galesburg, and Jonathon (and Jetleena) Harrold of Galesburg; nine grandchildren; Sister Marilyn Haas Simmons Day of Galesburg; and niece Chris (and Earl) Ekstrom and nephew Jack “Peach” (and Betsy) Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents.

As a child Dan and his parents traveled throughout many different states. They landed in Abington, IL where he graduated from Abington High School in 1969. He earned multiple associate’s degrees from Carl Sandburg College and had acquired a multitude of certificates throughout his career. Dan created many memories and friends while playing in his band “Rambler Express”. He also served his community as a firefighter for the Moline Fire Department in the 1980’s. Prior to his “last flight” he was employed as a lineman for Jet Air Inc. in Galesburg, IL. He enjoyed restoring cars, planes, motorcycles, and tractors. Dan always loved to involve his family members in parts of any restoration projects. He prided himself in the fact that he had won many awards for his prized possession 1962 restored Corvette. It seems that nearly every project Dan touched was considered a work of art by his peers.

Dan served on the Board for the National Stearman Fly-in for many years. His restored Stearman was highlighted on the Stearman poster for 2015. He acquired his pilot’s license when he was 18 years old and enjoyed flying/restoring airplanes his entire adult life. Together Dan and Laurie enjoyed scuba diving, sky diving, flying, and riding on Dan’s Harley.

Leroy Torres will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service with burial at a later date in the Abington Cemetery.
