M. Jane Johnson

M. Jane Johnson, 84, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away quietly at 7:45 pm Saturday, August 13, 2016 at home with her family.

She was born June 23, 1932 in Abingdon, Illinois the daughter of Paul and Margaret McGaan Nelson. She married Richard E. “Dick” Johnson on September 21, 1953 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2016.

She is survived by her five sons, Steven E. (and Cindy W.) Johnson of East Moline, Illinois, Jeffrey D. Johnson of St. Charles, Illinois, Richard H. (and Nancy M.) Johnson of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Thomas P. Johnson of Chillicothe, Illinois, and Robert Q. (and Michelle) Johnson of St. Charles, Missouri; two grandchildren, Quinton Paul Johnson and Erin Lee Johnson; her two cousins, Karla (Tom) McGreevey of Rock Island, Illinois and Nancy (Norm) Freedlund of Batavia, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Jane taught elementary education for 17 years, retiring April 30, 1997. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1950 and Knox College in 1954. She was a member of the PEO-AN, Mosaic Club and the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Jane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was very active in the church. Jane enjoyed duplicate bridge, knitting, reading and many other activities with her friends and families.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Shawn Smith will officiate. Family will receive friends at a luncheon following the services at the church. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and or Special Olympics of Illinois. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
