Roberta L. “Betty” Lydic, age 87, of Abingdon and formerly of Avon and Little Swan Lake, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on February 27, 1927 in Monmouth, the daughter of Joseph
and Nellie Blevins Johnson. She married Jesse T. Lydic, Jr. on April
13, 1946 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2013. She was
also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Rita Andrews, and
two brothers, Joe Johnson and Don Johnson.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Gloria (Jim Endres) Bradford of
Fairview; one son, Ron (Lynn) Lydic of RR Abingdon; numerous
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who
were all cherished by Betty; one brother, Dale (Mary) Johnson of
Colorado; three sisters, Mary (Lew) Whitney of Nevada, Gertrude (Ken)
Jones of Oklahoma and Donna (Danny) McAllister of Flora; and several
nieces and nephews.
She had lived in Cameron, RR Stronghurst, Avon, Little Swan Lake and
Abingdon. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper/dispatcher for Lydic
Trucking. She also worked as a clerk at the former Brown’s Market in
Avon. She served as the Postmaster at the Yates City, Marietta and Avon
Post Offices. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in
Monmouth. She was a member of the Women’s Club, the Legion Auxiliary
and she volunteered at the Avon Nursing Home. Betty was a good cook and
baker and enjoyed providing for her family in the kitchen.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the
Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. in Abingdon. Rev. Darryl McDaniel and
Rev. Paul Lydic will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon
Cemetery. Her grandsons, Scott Meyer, David Meyer, Thomas Meyer,
Russell Meyer, Tim Boyd, Jason Lydic and Chad Lydic will proudly carry
her to her grave. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
