Elaine
Suydam, age 74 of Knoxville, Illinois died at 10:43 A.M. on Tuesday,
December 9, 2014 at Trinity Unity Point in Rock Island, Illinois with
her husband and children by her side.
She
was born on October 3, 1940 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of
Herman and Julia Lindahl Stomberg. She attended and graduated from
Knoxville High School in 1958.
She
began working at the Bank of Galesburg, Furniture Store in Knoxville,
then her and her husband owned and operated “Little Bit O Country” ice
cream parlor and catering in Knoxville, finally she worked at the
Knoxville Library.
She
was a member Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, and was active in her
church. She was a member of the former Junior Women’s Club, the Delong
Book Club, Kidder Button Club, Galesburg, and President of the State
Heart of Illinois Button Club, Peoria. She collected buttons, enjoyed
drawing and painting. She also volunteered at the Cottage Hospital Gift
Shop.
Surviving
is her husband, two children, David (Penny) Suydam of Aurora, Illinois,
and Angie (Doug) Schaefer of Elgin, Illinois; three grandchildren, Josh
Suydam, Maddie and Julia Schaefer, a sister, Jeannie (John Dress)
Curtis of Gilson, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and
one sister, Judy Gustafson.
Funeral
services will are scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Grace
Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Michel D. Clark will
officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday,
December 12, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in
Knoxville, Illinois. Internment will take place at the Knoxville
Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Grace
Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois. Online condolences and sympathy
