Carolyn A. Brower, 78, of
Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in
Marigold Health Care Center.
She was born February 14,
1936 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Bernard and Gertrude
(Roesch) Hayes. She married Larry J. Brower on November 24, 1954 at
St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington.
She is survived by her
husband of over 60 years, Larry; three sons, David (and Sarah) Brower
of Anderson, South Carolina, Jeffrey Brower of Hamilton, Illinois,
and Gregory Brower of Jefferson City, Missouri; a daughter, Kristine
(and Mark) Peterson of Galesburg; a daughter-in-law, Carol Brower of
Hamilton; nine grandchildren, Katie, Michael, Ben, Daniel J.,
Nichole, Scott, Alexander, Megan, and Whitney; two great
grandchildren, Landon and Ryder; and a brother, Donald (and Kathy)
Hayes of St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her
parents; and infant son, Daniel; and two sisters, Frances Smith and
Jean Hayes.
Carolyn and Larry lived in
Hamilton, Illinois for many years before moving to Galesburg in 2006.
While in Hamilton, she was a secretary at Hamilton High School and
was affectionately known as “Mrs. B”. After retirement she
worked for the Keokuk, Iowa school district for a time. She
graduated from Burlington High School in 1954. Carolyn was of
Catholic faith and a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in
Galesburg.
Funeral Mass will be 10
a.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m.
Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in
Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Burlington at 2 p.m. on Monday.
