Mon Shee
“Lind” Wong, 88, of Galesburg, died 11:49 a.m. Thursday, February
5, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was
born December 7, 1926 in Canton, China to Gim Yen and Cheung Heung
Wong. He married Lonnie Lew September of 1953 in Texas. She
preceded him in death. He later married Mel Yen Wong April 15, 1987
in East Galesburg. She survives.
Also
surviving is a son, Russell (and Nancy) Wong of Galesburg, a
daughter-in-law, Connie Wong of Galesburg, three daughters, Melinda
(and John) Kilgore, Suzanne (and Dale) Hopping and Knox Wong all of
Galesburg, a sister, Carol Gee of Boston, Mass., nine grandchildren,
Marc Wong, Tony Wong, Jennifer Kilgore, Alonna Kilgore, Kimberly
Norville, Tim Wong, Kristin Wong, Sam Wong and Rose Cree all of
Galesburg, and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by
his parents, a son, Findly Wong, a brother, two sisters and a
grandson, Robert Kilgore.
Lind
became owner of New China in Galesburg in 1967. New China, in its
prime, was considered one of the best places for a steak in town. He
owned and operated the restaurant for 28 years and retired in 1995.
He was born in China then lived briefly in Texas and Quincy, Ill.
before settling in Galesburg. Lind enjoyed cooking for his family.
Funeral
service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Jeremie Kilgore will
officiate the service. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday,
February 10, 2015 at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood
Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the charity of the
