Joe R. Torrance, age 52, of Oquawka, Illinois; traveled to Germany and was stricken with a heart ailment and passed away at the University of Frankfurt Hospital on February 26, 2015. Joe was born on December 22, 1962 and is the son of George P. and Reta Kay Nott Torrance. He was raised in Henderson County and attended local schools and graduated from Union High School in the class of 1980. He then attended Southeastern Community College where he obtained an associates degree. Joe also served his country as a private in the Army Reserves in the years 1982-1983. He married Nannette Marie Hainds on February 17, 1985 at the Methodist Church in Gladstone, Illinois and she is surviving. Joe was first employed with the family farming operation in Henderson County and then worked in Maintenance at Burlington Medical Center. He then was an Automated Equipment Specialist with Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois and then worked for Hon in Muscatine, Iowa. Following that he worked and is currently employed as an R5 Machine Repairman in the Maintenance Department of John Deere in East Moline, Illinois. Joe enjoyed attending Faith Bible Church in Oquawka, IL He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He loved cooking and smoking specialty meats. He loved gardening and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Nannette Torrance of Oquawka, Illinois and four children, Chase Torrance of Smithshire, IL., Spencer (Meghan) Torrance of Gladstone, Illinois, David Thompson of Colona, IL., Karrie (fiancé Michael Mackey) Thompson of Little York, Illinois also are surviving. His father, George Torrance of Biggsville, Illinois is surviving. His grandchildren, Hunter, Aubrey, and BraxtonThompson, and Elyssia and Annabella Torrance survive. There are two sisters, Rebecca (David) Anderson of Reynolds, IL. and Susan (Michael) Haney of Champaign, IL and three brothers, Phillip Torrance of Gladstone, IL; Dean (Theresa) Torrance of Granville, IL; and Stanley (Heidi) Torrance of Biggsville, Illinois surviving. A number of nieces and nephews and other relatives are also surviving. Joe is preceded in his death by his grandparents and his mother, Reta.
A funeral service will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois on Saturday March 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. His family plans visitation, receiving their friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday evening.
