Mrs. Mary E. Leadbetter,
92, of Galesburg, died at 2:54 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 in the
Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born August 5,
1922 in Galesburg, the daughter of Herman W. and Hortense (Tyler)
Talbert. She married Dallas O. Leadbetter on September 27, 1941 in
Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death December 4, 1981.
She is survived by two
daughters, Sharon Singleton of Etowah, North Carolina and Arlene
“Dena” Callison of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Teresa Lindsay
of New Jersey and Kevin Callison of McDonough, Georgia; six great
grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces,
nephews, and friends from Galesburg, North Carolina, Georgia, and
Miami. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
parents and a brother, Herman J. Talbert.
Mary graduated from
Galesburg High School in 1940. She was a homemaker. She had lived
in Etowah, North Carolina for two years and in Atlanta, Georgia for
five years before returning to Galesburg in 2008. Mary was
responsible for the formation of the Widow’s and Widower’s Group
in 1981 and helped with that until 1999. She was a member of the
Order of the Eastern Star. Mary loved to bowl and was in several
leagues over the years.
In accordance with her
wishes, Mary will be cremated. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon
Friday, March 20, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Graveside services will follow the visitation at Oak Lawn Memorial
Gardens with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angels Pet Rescue.
