Larry E. Hollowell

Larry E. Hollowell, 73, of Galesburg, died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 in Heartland Health Care Center.

He was born August 7, 1941 in Galesburg, the son of Charles Hollowell and Helen Hamilton.  He married Faith Bailey in 1962 in Galesburg, Antoinette Wilder in 1970 in Galesburg, and Angelita Hollowell in 2001 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife, Angelita; his mother, Helen Hamilton of Galesburg; four children, Scott (Jodi) Hollowell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jolean (Lamont) Overton-Austin of Davenport, Iowa, Londa S. Hollowell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sydney Williams of Chicago, Illinois; step children, Charles Williams of Galesburg, Tyrone Williams of Galesburg, Shelly Williams of Dubuque, Iowa, Sheila (Reginald) Williams-Edwards of Dubuque, Iowa, Lisa Williams of Galesburg, Cary (Shanel) Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Teresa (Mark) Haynes of Galesburg, Ricky Crosby of Galesburg, and Sonjia Crosby of Bloomington, Illinois; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hollowell and uncles, Leo, Leroy, and Thateus Hollowell and Robert, Waymond, and Clarence Hamilton.

Larry was born and raised in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1960.  He worked at the former Galesburg Research Hospital from 1960 to 1962, at Central Junior High School in Monmouth from 1962 to 1965, at Gale Products for 13 years, and at Maytag for 13 years.  He retired in 1996.

He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, and the Miami Heat.  In 2001, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for basketball at Galesburg High School.  In his earlier years, he liked to play cards with his friends.  Larry enjoyed listening to blues music and spending time with his family.
