Carl William “Cubby” Stephan

Carl William “Cubby” Stephan, 66, of Galesburg, died Monday morning November 30, 2015 in Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, following a brief illness.

Carl was born June 1, 1949 in Galesburg, the son of Russell E. and Lillian B. Farrell Stephan.  Carl graduated from Costa High School in 1967.  He went on to attend Carl Sandburg College.  Carl had a 35 year career at Butler Mfg where he worked as a press operator.  Carl retired on November 1, 2004.

Carl is survived by his two brothers, Bernard (Gayle) Stephan and Edward (Connie) Stephan, both of Galesburg.  He is also survived by one nephew, Jarrod (Linda) Stephan of Gilson; two nieces, Kelly (Seth) Lopotko of Chillicothe and Brittany (Eric) Vochatzer of Olathe, KS; and four great nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Carl was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  He was a weekly volunteer for FISH Food Pantry, was an avid fan of minor league baseball, and a devoted fan of Notre Dame.

Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  Rev. William T. Miller, IC will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, FISH Food Pantry, or to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
