Donald Ellis Lawton, 67, of Galesburg, died at 9:31 p.m.
Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
Don was born on May 19, 1948 in Rochester, NY, the son of
Norman and Hazel Loretta Harvey Lawton.
He married Betty Hall. Don is
survived by his wife, Betty J. Hall-Lawton of Galesburg; a twin brother, David
(Barb) Lawton of Ledyard, IA; and one son, Jerrod Lawton. He was preceded in death by one sister and
his parents.
Don served in the US Navy.
He worked at Holiday Inn in Galesburg for several years. He then worked for many years as a cook at
Knox College, where he stayed until his retirement. In his free time, Don enjoyed cooking and
spending time with his dog. He was a
lifetime member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, Galesburg; and a
member of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Per Don’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no
services are planned. Interment of
cremated remains will be at a later date in Fairmount, MN. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to
Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made in Don’s memory to the
Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL
