ALVIN ‘AL’ L. HANKINS


Mr. Alvin “Al” L. Hankins, 73, of Galesburg, died at 6:32 am Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home.

He was born December 8, 1942 in Galesburg the son of Winifred “Bo” and Lucille Brackett Hankins. He married Constance Jane Guenther on August 12, 1962 in Galesburg. He later married Beth Ann Garman on October 3, 1974 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are his three sons, Alvin L Hankins, Jr. of Kingman, Arizona, Lawrence Duane (and Amanda) Hankins and Patrick Bo (and Hillary) Hankins both of Galesburg; his daughter, Deborah Lynn Johnson of Alexis, Illinois; his two brothers, Larry (and Teresa) Hankins of Galesburg and Terry (and Linda) Hankins of Knoxville, Illinois; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerry and a sister, Bonnie Friend.


Al served in the US Navy for 8 years as a machinist mate 1st class during the Vietnam era.

Al worked for BNSF Railroad for 35 years, retiring as a trimmer yard master. He also worked at Southard’s Car Wash for 8 years. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time watching his grandchildren sporting events. Al was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Funeral services are scheduled for 7 pm Monday, December 14, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Don Reynolds will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Monday at the chapel.
