Frances J. Elliott

Frances J. Elliott, 88, of Monmouth, IL passed away with her family at her side at 12:14 p.m. Friday December 18, 2015 on her birthday at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Frances was born on December 18, 1927 in Hale Township in rural Monmouth, IL. She was the daughter of E.T. and Kate (Gavin) Gillen. She was raised on the farm and attended Hale Center School and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1945. Frances married Ralph F. Elliott at the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth on February 9, 1948. Frances and Ralph enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Frances and Ralph in their early years lived on the farm west of Monmouth. In 1959 they moved to the farm south of Monmouth in Lenox Township where they lived and worked together for the next 60 years. Prior to starting a family, Frances also worked at Brown, Lynch, Scott and Spurgeon’s in Monmouth. Frances was a strong woman of faith and a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church and an active worker in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a proud wife, mother, grand mother, and great-grandmother who always liked to have fun. Putting the needs of her family before her own was her common method of operation. Frances was known for her cooking skills and for the many years of her "meals in the field service". Her larger than life personality allowed her to know virtually no strangers. Memories of how she lived her life and the legacy she left behind will continue to have influence for generations to come. She is survived by her husband Ralph, three sons, and a daughter: Rob and Steph Elliott of Cameron, IL, Rick and Kathy Elliott of Monmouth, IL, Dan and Sue Elliott of Cameron, IL plus Sarah and Jim Morrison of Zionsville, IN. Grandchildren and Great- Grandchildren are: Erik Elliott of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jared and Jessica Elliott, Mason and Piper of Naperville, IL, Dr. Rob and Leslie Elliott, Jaden and Luke of Berwyn, PA, Gina and Tim Meister, Drew, Delaney, and Hudson of Charleston, IL, Kate and Billy Johnson of Alexis, IL, Emily and Aaron Guerrettaz, Isaac of Goshen, IN, Peter Elliott of Des Moines, IA, Jennifer Elliott of Monmouth, IL, Michelle Elliott of Chicago, IL, Doug and Erin Elliott, Milly and Huntley of Monmouth, IL, Greg and Carissa Elliott, Reese of Monmouth, IL, Danielle Morrison and Corbin of Zionsville, IN, Katie Morrison of Oakland, CA,Jimmy Morrison of Zionsville, IN. Also surviving are sisters Lucille Gillen and Betty (Mike) Hennenfent and brother George (Mary) Gillen all of Monmouth, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Katherine, Margaret, and Mary plus her brothers Bill, Roy, and Dick.

Rosary will begin at 4:00 pm on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will be present after the Rosary until 7:00 to receive friends. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
