H. Raleigh Stegall, 79 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 1:48 p.m. Monday December 21, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg with his loving family at his side.
He was born June 7, 1936 in Springfield, the son of Henry Raleigh and Allie Thompson Stegall. He married Nancy Peck on November 12, 1954 in Abingdon.
Raleigh is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy; two sons, John (Jenny) Stegall of Abingdon and Rick (Anita) Stegall of LaSalle; one daughter, Brenda (Rev. Randy) Morse of Scott City, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Mandy Stegall, Angie Huckstep, Stephanie McMillan, Nathan Morse, Andrew Stegall, Ashley Stegall and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers and one grandson.
He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1954. He attended Browns Business College in Galesburg. He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He worked at the Admiral Factory for 11 years and later at Gates Rubber Company for 29 ½ years, retiring in 1998. He also worked part-time at the former Ace Hardware in Abingdon. He had lived in Galesburg since 2000. He was a member and Deacon of the Abingdon Christian Church. He was a past member of the former Abingdon Jaycees and was a member of the Christian Rodders Association Car Club.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Abingdon Christian Church. Rev. Darryl McDaniel, Rev. Randy Morse and Rev. Nathan Morse will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
