Mrs. Fern C. Pumfrey, 94, of
Galesburg, died at 2:03 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016, in Seminary Manor.
She was born January 29, 1921
in Alpha, Illinois, the daughter of Marion J. and Clara N. Brown Riley. She married Walter M. Pumfrey on September 29,
1940 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2010.
She is survived by her three
sons, Marion A. (and Diana) Pumfrey of Larkspur, Colorado, James E. Pumfrey of
Papillion, Nebraska, and Walter M. (and Lillian) Pumfrey Jr. of Herculaneum,
Missouri; her one daughter, Carol F. Randol of Fredericksburg, Virginia; her
one brother, Dale H. Riley of Anderson, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 24 great
grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, two sisters, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
Fern worked as a clerk for
the Wonder Bread Store for 12 ½ years, retiring in 1980. She graduated from Galesburg High School. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star #235 and the White Shrine. Fern was
a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s Circle.
Funeral services are
scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Mary Runge will
officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m.
Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be
in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials
