Mrs. Winnifred J. Newcomb,
passed away peacefully on January 7, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in
Rockford, Illinois.
She was born October 22, 1926
in Canton, Illinois the daughter of Wallace and Edna (Milner) Woodcock. She married
Donald L. Newcomb in 1952 and together they resided on a farm just outside of
Wataga, Illinois. They had two children, Charles D. (Linda) Newcomb and Carol
D. (Phil) Lambert.
She is survived by her
daughter, Carol Lambert of Rockford; her daughter-in-law, Linda Newcomb of
Knoxville; her grandchildren, Jon (Robyn) Newcomb, Alena Newcomb, Stephen (Wah Yung)
Lambert and Amy (Joe) Lambert-Avery and a great granddaughter, Adelaide Avery.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, son Charles and son-in-law Phil.
She graduated from Canton
High School and went on to nursing at Peoria Methodist Hospital. She was a
nurse for over 37 years, working at the Galesburg Research Hospital and later
Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria. She was an avid member of the Wataga
Share, Wataga Seniors, was a member of the Four Square Church in Galesburg, and
participated in various card clubs. She enjoyed life and her friends were very
important to her.
Funeral services are
scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, January 11, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Bob Wakefield officiating. Visitation will be from
9:00-10:00 am Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial
Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Foursquare Church in
