Kenneth H. "Whitey" "Shorty" Wilson

Kenneth H. "Whitey" "Shorty" Wilson, age 77, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 1:43 am. Kenneth was born on October 28, 1938 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Charles S. and Vera G. Kilpatrick Wilson. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended school and the Monmouth High School. Whitey married Phyllis C. Sedwick on November 25, 1960 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Shorty began work when he was nine years old and worked for Clarence Trotter at the Monmouth Country Club where he was grounds keeper and more. He was employed at Maytag Corporation in Galesburg for forty-one years until his retirement. Kenny loved to play golf and was a member of Gibson Woods Golf Course. He loved to play Lotto and enjoyed woodworking at his home. He was always considered "the favorite Uncle " by his family and loved to ride his scooter. His family and grandchildren were always foremost. Shorty is survived by his wife, Phyllis C. Wilson of Monmouth, Illinois and two daughters, Jody (John) Henderson of Reno, Nevada and Cindy Wilson of Owasso, Oklahoma. There are seven grandchildren, Samantha Cheek, Alexis Crosier, Micheal Crosier, Landen Crosier, Ryan (Megan) Cheek, John (Megan) Henderson Jr. and Hunter Henderson. Two sisters, Ella Hank and Karen Cassiday both of Monmouth, IL, two brothers, Glenn Wilson of Monmouth, IL and Louis Wilson of Logan, Georgia. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery of Monmouth. His family plans visitation and will receive their friends at Turnbull Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A memorial fund is being established for either Faith United Presbyterian Church or the Future Golfers Association of Gibson Woods Golf Course.
