Pauline N.
Helms, 96, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:35 am Tuesday, February
16, 2016 in Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
Pauline
was born July 24, 1919 in Mills County, Iowa, the daughter of Martin
L. and Mable Leonard Wilson. She married Paul D. Helms on April 26,
1940 in Rockport, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 26,
1987.
She is
survived by two sons, David L. (and Bernice) Helms of East Moline,
Illinois and Steve R. (and Connie) Helms of Galesburg; a daughter,
Paula Rae (and Rodger) Espy of Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren,
Sheila (April Peterson) Qualls, Marty Helms, Jody (Cody) Lewis and
Sara Helms; four great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters
and one grandchild, David John Helms.
Pauline
was raised in Glenwood, Iowa. She attended Glenwood High School,
graduating in 1938. She lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha,
Nebraska before moving to Galesburg. She worked as a grocery clerk
for National Tea Grocery Store and spent five years in the accounting
department of the Bank of Galesburg.
Pauline
was an active member of the First Lutheran Church. She was also a
member of the Piece Makers Sewing Club, the First Lutheran Loyal Star
Lodge, the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad Veterans Association
and a 50 year member of the Galesburg Women’s Club. She was a
volunteer at the Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Funeral
services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday, February 20, 2016 at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Pamela Marolla will
officiate. Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 am Saturday at the chapel.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to
