William J. Nichols

William J. Nichols, age 53, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 12:26 am on February 22, 2016 at the Emergency Room of OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Bill was born on July 25, 1962 in Morning Sun, Iowa and is the son of Gordon D. and Lois Eaton Nichols. He was raised and educated in Alexis and its area schools. He married Kimberly G. Garner on July 12, 2003 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Bill began work as a farmhand and worked for Byron Keating, then Gary Jensen, and then for Claire Driscoll. For a number years he cared for yards working for the late, Dart Bowen in Monmouth and then worked for Roger Wilson in the trash hauling business here in Monmouth. Bill also was employed by the local pork plant for a number of years followed by working for the railroad refrigerator services in Galesburg, Illinois. Lastly he owned and operated the 1st Avenue Pub with his wife Kimberly here in Monmouth, Illinois. He loved fishing and camping and taking care of his pets. He enjoyed sports, namely football, baseball, and basketball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan. Bill loved his grandchildren dearly and them meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly G. Nichols of Monmouth, Illinois and two daughters, Heather (Kevin) Dale of Galesburg, Illinois and Hillary (fiancé Andrew Tatman) Nichols of Monmouth, Illinois. There are five grandchildren. Four sisters survive, Karen (Gene) Sparrow, Donna (Dan) Hallengren, Allena Wilson and Mary Green, all of Monmouth, Illinois, and three brothers, Harry (Katie) Nichols of Berwick, IL, John Nichols, and Dale Nichols, both of Monmouth, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his parents and two sisters.
A funeral service is planned for 10:00 am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. His family plans a visitation and will receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the service.
