Dorothy Surber


 Dorothy “Dot” Mae Surber, 97 of Court Yard Estates in Bushnell and formerly of Avon, passed away at 10:11 a.m. Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the Care Center of Abingdon. 
  She was born September 18, 1918 in New Boston, the daughter of Ora and Emma Pearl McCune Deatherage.  She married Bud Banta and he preceded her in death.  She later married Kyle N. Surber on August 29, 1942. 
  Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of almost 74 years, Kyle; one daughter, Sherrilyn (Cork) Dalton of rural Gilson; three sons, Stan (Judy) Banta of Oquawka, Bob (Sharon) Banta of Oquawka and Terry Surber of East Peoria; nine grandchildren, Brett Banta, Kelly Arciniega, Robbie Banta, Debbie Pompe,   Darrin Dalton, Brad Dalton, Jason Dalton, Kelly Kimmitt and Melanie Price; and several great-grandchildren.
  She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
  Dot had lived in Little York, Avon, Bushnell and Abingdon.  She worked at the Galesburg Research Hospital for many years before retiring from there.  She loved fishing with her sons, playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her family.
  Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Avon Cemetery.  Rev. Russ Witkowski will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
