Patsy Ruth Bond Berry passed
from this life 7:13 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Care Center of
Abingdon surrounded by her three children. Services for Mrs. Berry, will be
Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg
Chapel. Rev. Jon Sibley will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Flowers are permitted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
or Knox College.
She was born on November 21,
1930, in Harlan Kentucky, the daughter of Ona Robinson Bond and Dr. Henry F.
Bond. On September 30, 1950, Mrs. Berry married Rush Mitchell Berry, a union
that lasted 54 years. She is a graduate of Galesburg High School in 1948. She
attended the University of Illinois for two years and graduated from Knox
College. Patsy was a school teacher in CUSD District
205 (Galesburg, Il) for 35 years. Patsy volunteered at Cottage Hospital
and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc and
Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers
Association. She was a member of Second Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school
teacher and served as church treasurer.
She was survived by two
daughters, Patsy Michele Berry (formerly Lamothe) of St. Louis, Missouri, Katherine
(Kaye) Elizabeth Berry-Gipson of Galesburg, one son, Rush Henry and Lisa Berry
of Madison, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Isidore J. Lamothe, IV (Pete),
Patrick M. Lamothe, Josette R. Gipson, Willie L. Gipson, Mitchell B. Gipson,
Micaela F. Berry, Megan P. Berry, Matthew R. Berry, and Mya A. Berry; and six
great-grandchildren; one nephew Leslie F. Bond; three nieces Candace Bond-McKeever
(Steve), Lou Ellen McElmurry and Roxy Schumann; a host of great nieces,
nephews, cousins and numerous dear close friends.
