Richard R. McDonald, age 78, of Kirkwood, Illinois, passed away at 12:03 pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born on May 25, 1937 in Huntsville, Illinois, the son of Joseph Roy and Wylladean (Eyman) McDonald. Richard attended schools in the Augusta, Bowen, and Plymouth areas and later attended Gem City College where he graduated with a degree in accounting. He enlisted and proudly served his Country with the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1962. On August 20, 1962, Richard married Sharon Ruth Stansbury in Quincy, Illinois and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2011. He began work as an accountant at the Colchester Sale Barn for six years. He also worked with his father and brothers driving in livestock and grain and at the I.A.A.P. in Middletown, Iowa from 1971-1972. Richard loved to drive a truck and drove for many local companies including Munson Transportation in Monmouth. He received a 20 year award for safe driving. Richard owned and raised ponies with his wife Sharon and the children. Richard is survived by four sons; Clifford L. (Sherry) McDonald, Michael L. (Candie) McDonald, Randall D. McDonald, and Rodney W. (Pam) McDonald all of Kirkwood, IL, two brothers; Robert E. (Marge) McDonald of Augusta, IL, Gary D. (Brenda) McDonald of Rushville, IL, and one sister; Betty E. (Gene) Cox of Quincy, IL. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon, one brother, Wayne L. McDonald, one sister, Karen Mae McDonald, and one daughter, Kathy Jolynn.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 am on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. His family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established and will be named at a later date.
