Betty Suzanna Fones


Betty Suzanna Fones, 87, of Galesburg, died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Betty was born October 19, 1928 in Galesburg, the daughter of Samuel S. and Margaret A. Johnson Westfall.  She married Richard “Dick” S. Fones on August 5, 1951 in Galesburg.  Dick preceded her in death on March 31, 2016.  Betty is survived by four sons, Roger (Nancy) Fones of Galesburg, Robert (Rhonda) Fones of Knoxville, Ronnie Fones of Houston, TX, and Ray Fones of Galesburg; one daughter, Ronda (Dale) Knowles of Mississippi; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by two brothers, Albert (Janice) Westfall of Henderson and Fred Westfall of Galesburg; and two sisters, Alma Powell of Galesburg and Ann (Carl) Colwell of East Galesburg.  Along with her husband Dick, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and two brothers.
Betty attended Galesburg schools.  She was a homemaker and always took great pride in her home, plants and garden.  The most important thing in Betty’s life was her husband Dick, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage, along with her children and grandchildren.
Cremation rites will be accorded.  A visitation to celebrate the lives of Dick and Betty will be 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the First Christian Church of Knoxville, 201 S. Broad St., Knoxville, IL.  A memorial service for Dick and Betty will follow at 6 p.m.  Pastor David Shreeves will officiate.  The family requests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
