Patricia “Patty” E. DeJaynes, 89 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 2:09 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Woodridge Supportive Living Center in Galesburg, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born September 5, 1926 in Alpha, the daughter of Clay and Nellie McKanna Woollums. She married William E. “Ted” DeJaynes on July 25, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1996. She was also preceded in death by three daughters, Debbie DeJaynes, Donna Dickerson and Sandra Colwell, one son-in-law, Leroy Colwell, two granddaughters, Sandra Jean Dickerson and Tedra Lynn Cottom, two brothers, Harold Woollums and James Woollums, and one sister, Marjorie Norville.
Patty is survived by one son, Ed “Snook” (Donna) DeJaynes of Abingdon; one daughter, Kathy (Daryl) Alderman of Peoria; one son-in-law, Dave Dickerson of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Ann Hiskey of Evansville, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
She was raised in Alpha until the age of 12 and moved to London Mills with her family. She lived in Abingdon from 1942 to 2014. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Abingdon and taught Sunday school for 35 years.
Patty always put God first in her life. She read her Bible and prayed faithfully every day. She also enjoyed reading Christian books and watching game shows. She was a breast cancer survivor and proudly wore pink to show her support. She often visited friends in area nursing homes and hospitals. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Everyone who met her loved and adored her. She was a friend to all, beautiful both inside and out.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at First Assembly of God, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon. Rev. Russ Witkowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
