Claude D. “Bill” Brock


Claude D. “Bill” Brock, 98, of Galesburg, died at 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Marigold Health Care Center.

He was born August 28, 1917 in Warren County, Illinois, the son of James A. and Nellie (Spain) Brock.  He married Catherine Kendall on February 8, 1940 in Kahoka, Missouri.  She preceded him in death March 17, 2011.

He is survived by a son, D. Joe (and Jayne) Brock of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a daughter, Mary (and Dan) Sullivan of Galesburg; three grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Allen of Aledo, Illinois.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Penny Sullivan on September 27, 2009; three brothers, Jim, David, and Charles; and two sisters, Ruth Brown and Doris Linxwiler.

Bill was a boilermaker for the C.B.&Q. Railroad for 12 years.  He then worked in the maintenance department for District 205 for 24 years, retiring January 16, 1977.

Bill was a member of the Covenant Church and Alpha Masonic Lodge #155.  He served in the United States Navy for 13 months.  He was stationed in the Pacific and was a Fireman Second Class.  Bill was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.


Cremation will be accorded.  Private family graveside service will be a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.  Memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to Covenant Church Camp Fund.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
