Charles “Ed” Lenz, 76 of rural Berwick, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 19, 1940 in Oquawka, the son of Lawrence “Sam” and Maxine Rockhold Lenz. He married Mary Jane Gustafson July 27, 1962 at the Smithshire United Methodist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane; his children, Carol Lenz of Nampa, Idaho, Debbie Lenz of rural Berwick, Cathy Ruhl of Abingdon and Charles Lenz of rural Berwick; six grandchildren, Renee, Ryan, Gus, Andrea, Austin and Carson; two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Brynn; two brothers, Gerry (Joan) Lenz of Smithshire and Paul (Caron) Lenz of rural Abingdon; and one sister, Sheryl Lowery of Mackinaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ed had lived in the Berwick area since 1967. He was a farmer and had also worked for the Warren County Highway Department. He later served as the Berwick Township Road Commissioner for 12 years before retiring. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, mushrooming and being out in the great outdoors. He was also known as “the wood cutter”, as he enjoyed cutting firewood.
To celebrate his life, the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation.
