Thomas Johnson, 81, of Monmouth, passed away at 11:53
p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2016 in Galesburg, IL.
He was born on July 31, 1934 in Cave City, KY, the son
of Harry R. and Irene (Norman) Johnson. Tom graduated from Roseville
High School in 1951. He then took
advanced courses in banking school.
Tom married Joyce Elaine Hallberg in Monmouth on
August 28, 1955. She preceded him in death on September 3, 2001.
Tom was a banker for 42 years, starting his career
working at the 2nd National
Bank in Monmouth for 2 years. He then worked at Monmouth Trust and
Savings Bank and later Marquette Bank where he retired as president in
1999. He also served on the Board of Directors for Wells Fargo Bank
in Monmouth. Tom served as the President of the Mellinger Foundation
in Monmouth from 2005-2014. Tom was an avid golfer, a member of the
First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, Monmouth Masonic Lodge, Low 12 Club Member,
Western Illinois Shriners Club, and the Galesburg Command. He served
on the Warren County Housing Board, and the City of Monmouth Planning
Commission.
Surviving Tom are three children; Vicky (Steve)
Applegate of Pontiac, IL, Donald (Joni) Johnson of Aurora, CO, and Bradley
(Susan) Johnson of Denver, Colorado. Also surviving are seven
grandchildren; Matthew, Christina & Eric Johnson, Thomas & Ryan
Applegate, Brittani & Skylar Johnson, three great grandchildren; Paige
Applegate, Vinay & Sonali Johnson, one sister; Joann (Jack) Brown of
Florida, three sister-in-law’s; Mary Johnson of Monmouth, Shirley Johnson of
Monmouth, Vivian (Chet) George of Indiana, several nieces, nephews, and special
friend, Doris Talbott of Monmouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three
brothers; Gerald, Riley, and Jimmy Johnson, and one sister Delores
Johnson.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 3,
2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory,
Monmouth. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park,
Monmouth. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, prior to
the service at the Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the
Mellinger Foundation or the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. For
