Stanley Dean Lorenzen

Stanley Dean Lorenzen, 87 of Abingdon, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at his home with his family at his side. 
  He was born February 23, 1929 in Harlan, Iowa, the son of Carl and Juanita Dreyer Lorenzen.  He married Norma Jean Judy on June 12, 1954 in Monmouth, Illinois.
  Stan is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Norma Jean; his children, Larry (Diane) Lorenzen of rural Berwick, Debra Sue (Craig) Akers of rural Avon, Peggy Lorenzen-Redmond of Waterloo, Iowa and Gary (Kristy) Lorenzen of rural Berwick; nine grandchildren, Joseph Lorenzen and Kristin (Jeff) Wehrle, Kyle Akers and Kaitlin (Schyler) Hochgraber, Jorden and Sarah Redmond and Ellery (Bill) Johnson, Kaila and Travis Lorenzen. seven great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Johanna, Jadya, Jayden, Tanner, Kane, and Bowdrie; two sisters, Ardelle Lorenzen of Atlantic, Iowa and Janet Eslick of Fort Collins, Colorado.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, LaVon Becht.
  He graduated from high school in Hancock, Iowa in 1947.  He later served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.  He had lived in Iowa, California, rural Berwick and in Abingdon during his life.  He worked as a mechanic in his early years and then farmed in Berwick Township for more than 40 years.  He was also the Berwick Township Road Commissioner for 24 years while he farmed.  He retired in 2003.  He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Trustee and was active in many of the church organizations.  He was a lifetime member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.
  Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. in Abingdon.  Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate.  Burial with military rites will be in the Meridian Cemetery in Warren County.  Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
