Barbara M. Coleman, 82, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Galesburg, died at 5:35 p.m.
Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Unity Point Trinity Hospital, Rock
Island.
She was born April 19, 1934 in Little York, Illinois, to Walter L. and
Evelyn Ford Bailey. She married Roy A. Coleman December 24, 1952. He
preceded her in death November 4, 1973.
Surviving is a son, Gregory L. (and Judy) Coleman of Kansas City,
Missouri; four daughters, Kathleen M. Coleman of Davenport, Iowa,
Carolyn K. (and Shawn) Ross of Lockport, Illinois, Joy (and Kirk)
Johnson of Davenport, and Susan (and Ken) Henderson of Washington, D.C.;
a daughter-in-law, Mary Coleman of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother,
Charlie F. Bailey of East Moline, Illinois; three sisters, Gertrude
Scott of Oklahoma and Faith Williams of Oklahoma, and Marion Burton of
Monmouth, Illinois, a sister-in-law, Beatrice Kennedy of Canton,
Illinois; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her parents and a son, Allen Coleman.
Barbara was a teacher’s aide in Galesburg District 205 for 20 years and
retired in 1994. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1952. She
was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monmouth, Illinois,
and also attended Gospel Mission Temple in Davenport, Iowa. She was a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Policeman’s Benevolent
Association. Barbara enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, and
traveling. The family would like to give a special thank you to all of
her care givers.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dr. Melvin Grimes will
officiate. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5
to 7 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at the chapel. Memorials may be
