Maurice L. “Maury” Havelock,77 of Galesburg, Ill. died 4:50 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his home.
Maurice was born February 10, 1939 in Albia, Iowa, the son of Raymond
Havelock and Icle Shepherd Havelock. He was raised by his mother and
his stepfather, Icle and Harley Brisendine. He married Shirley J.
Crawford on September 30, 1963 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, John A. (and Carla) Havelock of Pekin,
Illinois, a daughter, Tracey (and Dylan) Voyles of Galesburg; two
brothers, Keith (and Lois) Brisendine and Jerry (and Theresa) Brisendine
both of Ottumwa; Iowa, a sister, Linda (and Walter) Estes of Ottumwa,
Iowa, a brother in law, Jim Hull of Ottumwa and seven grandchildren,
Jessica Havelock, Chelsea Genisio, Justin Havelock, Cali Voyles, Camdyn
Voyles, Zack Bishop and Chelsea Bishop. He is preceded in death by his
parents, a grandson, Craig Havelock and a sister, Mary Hull.
Maurice
was raised in Ottumwa before moving to Galesburg in 1966. He attended
Ottumwa High School, graduating in 1957. Upon graduation he enlisted in
the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. He then served in the Air Force
Reserves from 1961 to 1964. After his military enlistment, he went back
to Ottumwa and worked as a Policeman for the Ottumwa Police Department.
He later moved to Galesburg and became an Investigator for the
Burlington Northern Railroad, until 1994. He then worked for IMRL in
Davenport, Iowa for five years and retired in 1999. He was a member of
the First Christian Church in Galesburg. He was also a member of AMVETS,
Post 8 in Knoxville and of the Galesburg American Legion, Post 285. He
rode with the Patriot Guard Riders. Maurice enjoyed donating to the St.
Jude’s Children’s Hospital. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Most
of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family of Maurice would like to thank the staff of OSF Home
Health Care and Hospice for their extraordinary love, compassion and
care.
Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. M.J. Fitch officiating.
Military rites will be conducted by the VFW 2257/American Legion 285
Honor Guard. Private family graveside service will be held at a later
date in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to OSF
Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Online condolences may be
