Robert J. “Bob” Zefo,
89, of Oneida, died at 8:48 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at home.
He was born March 21,
1927, in Galesburg, the son of Tony and Elizabeth (Morrissey) Zefo.
He married Evelyn L. Conn on March 22, 1952, in Galesburg. She
preceded him in death on August 15, 1984.
He is survived by a
daughter, Vicki Zefo of Galesburg; a brother, Jack Zefo of Galesburg;
a sister, Patricia Morris in California; three grandchildren, Heather
(and Paul) Peters, Jenna (and Bill) Benson, and Zac Zefo; three great
grandchildren, Kyler, Jeremy, and Mia; and one great grandchild on
the way. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his
companion of 25 years, Ruthie Tucker in 2009; a son, Robert A. “Bob”
Zefo January 28, 2006; his parents; three brothers, William “Gabby”,
Tony, and Joseph; and a sister, Betty Owen.
Bob was plumber/pipefitter
with Local 25 for over 30 years. He was raised in the Catholic
faith.
Bob served in the United
States Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific.
He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion and VFW Post
2257. He had served on the American Legion Honor Guard for many
years.
Bob had also been a member
of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed Stearman planes and taking care of the
“ranch”.
Visitation will be 1 to 2
p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph
Cemetery with military honors by VFW 2257/Legion 285 Veterans Honor
Guard. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the
Ralph M. Noble American Legion. Online condolences may be made at
