Dona Marie Moon

Dona Marie Moon, 88, of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Room in Galesburg.
She was born June 15, 1928 in Abingdon, the daughter of Howard E. and Portia M. Simpson Davis.  She married Mark A. Moon on October 5, 1947 at the Abingdon Christian Church.
Dona is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Mark; her children, Michael (Nancy) Moon of Clarkston, Michigan, Virginia (Bob) Nott of Abingdon, Chuck (Mary) Moon of Burlington, North Carolina and Kay (Terry) Clemans of Medinah; three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jim (Roberta) Davis of Abingdon and Loris (Bernard) Sherman in the state of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Alden Davis and one sister, Karen Heck.
Dona was a lifelong resident of Abingdon.  She attended Abingdon schools and was a cheerleader at Abingdon High School, where she graduated in 1946.  She was very active throughout her life and in early married days she and her husband enjoyed square dancing.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always putting her family and their needs first before her own.  She was a Cub Scout den mother, member of bridge club, bowling leagues, and collector of Abingdon pottery.  After retirement in 1990 from her banking career of 28 years, she volunteered at Hedding Grade School in Abingdon in the reading program for 14 years.  For many years, she shared her talents with her loving family from baking their favorite pies to gifting them one of her sewing creations.  She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.  She was a premier example of Christianity, strength, and love.  To say that she will be missed is a complete understatement.
Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. with Rev Darryl McDaniel officiating.  A time of fellowship with the family will follow the service..
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either the Abingdon Christian Church or the Abingdon Food Pantry.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
