Felisa
Hernandez, 87, of Galesburg, died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, November 12,
2016 in the Emergency Room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Felisa
was born November 21, 1928 in Galesburg, the daughter of Perfecto and
Juanita Ponce Sanchez. She married Eduardo Hernandez on June 20,
1959 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2005.
Felisa is survived by two sisters, Pat (Sam) Leon of Galesburg and
Paula (Reuben) Orozco of Galesburg; three nephews, Ed Sanchez, Sam
and Jason Leon; great nieces and nephews, Justin, Ashley, Noel, and
Blake Sanchez, Brandon and Hannah Leon, and Tara and Keane Leon; and
her great great nieces and nephews, Jada and Keira Admire, and Miguel
and Salvadore Hernandez. Along with her husband and parents, Felisa
was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Sanchez.
Felisa
was raised and educated in Galesburg and Mexico. She worked for
Galesburg Gross for many years and retired from Carhartt. She was an
active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a member of the
Altar and Rosary Society. She supported many Hispanic clubs in
Galesburg over the years. Although she didn’t have any children
she took care of her family and loved them like her own. She loved
to cook. She enjoyed being outdoors tending to her flowers and
garden. She also enjoyed listening to Mexican music.
Visitation
will be 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Watson-Thomas
Funeral Home and Crematory, with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church. Rev. William Miller will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials
may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Online expressions
