Oma A. Standard, 89, of
Galesburg, died at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016, in Rosewood
Care Center.
She was born April 9,
1927, in Galesburg, the daughter of Mark O. and R. Mildred (Dean)
Vancil. She married Donald E. Standard on November 1, 1953, in
Galesburg. He preceded her in death November 30, 1991.
She is survived by two
sons, Steven A. (and Adriana) Standard of Rialto, California and
Pastor Michael D. (and Linda) Standard of Springfield, Illinois; four
grandchildren, Julia Salmi, Jeffrey (and Kana) Standard, Scott
Standard, and Angelique (and Shawn) and five great grandchildren,
Cadence, Ashlee, Kirsten, Jonathon and Maya and one great great
grandchild, Kayloni. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in
death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Jo; and three brothers.
Oma was a teacher for two
years. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Knox County Nursing Home
for 16 years, retiring in 1983. She graduated from Mt. Sterling High
School in 1945 and attended Western Illinois University. Oma was a
member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member and past
president of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 Ladies Auxiliary
and member and past chapeau of Knox County 8 & 40 Salon 215.
Visitation will be
5:00-7:00 pm Friday, November 11, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 12:30 pm Saturday at the
chapel with her son, Pastor Michael D. Standard officiating. Burial
will be in Rushville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to
