Arthur “Arty” Hugh Turner, Jr.

Arthur “Arty” Hugh Turner, Jr., 58, of Abingdon, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at his home.
  He was born June 27, 1958, in Galesburg, the son of Arthur Hugh and Cecil Lee Chaney Turner, Sr.
  Arty is survived by his life partner, Sherry S. Jones Bent; his children, Jaclyn Jones of Abingdon, Teri Bent of Abingdon, Jonathan Bent of Clearwater, Florida, and Stephanie (Fiancé, Joshua Nelson) Bent of Galesburg; his grandchildren Marquita, Khadijah, Arthur, Nevaeh, Jamal, and Emmanual; his siblings, Phillip Turner of Des Moines, Iowa, Cynthia Edmonson of Abingdon, Margaret Turner of Surprise, Arizona, Robin Turner of Peoria, Leslie Turner of Abingdon, and Janet Turner of Abingdon.  He is also survived by Sherry’s mother, Linda Bent and family, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother in-law Dean Edmonson and Sherry’s father, James Bent.
  He had lived in Abingdon all of his life.  He attended Abingdon schools and participated on the high school track team for two years.  He was a general laborer.  He enjoyed taking care of his grandkids. In his early years, he attended the Congregational Church and currently attended First Assembly of God in Abingdon.  His hobbies included, fishing, cooking fried chicken, cleaning his Monte Carlo, hanging with family and friends, road riding, mushroom hunting (although he was scared of snakes), bowling, playing the drums and enjoying a cold beer.
  Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, December23, 2016 at the Abingdon Cemetery.  Rev. Russ Witkowski will officiate.  Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Arty’s life from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Rip Rack Lanes, 409 S. Western Ave. in Abingdon. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
