LaVeta Jane Kenney, 89, Galesburg, passed away Saturday,
December 24, 2016, at 5:53 a.m. at Heartland Health Care Center. She was born Wednesday, March 30, 1927, in
Griggsville, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon K. and Nola (St. John)
Baker. She married Lyle L. Kenney on September 12, 1946 in Alexis,
Illinois.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 70
years; four children, Curtis (Mary) Kenney of Durham, North Carolina,
Janice (Stan) Taylor of Mountain Home, Arkansas; Carol (and Jim) Brown of
Galesburg, Illinois; and Mark (Ruth) Kenney of Alexis, Illinois; 12
grandchildren, Troy (Angie) Kenney, Jenny (Rick) McCutcheon, John (April)
Loveridge, Joshua Moore, Emily (Luke) Raymond, Sarah (Jason) Horner, Markus
(Julia ) Kenney, Chris Snow, Nick Snow, Jake Kenney, Rachel Kenney, and Jesse
Kenney, 16 great-grandchildren, one sister, Thelma Krantz, and many nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, (Dorothy
Alstedt), and one grandchild.
LaVeta was raised and educated in Alexis, Illinois,
graduating from Alexis High School in 1945. She was a homemaker and farm wife,
raising and caring for her family and working along side her husband until
their retirement from farming in 1974. She enjoyed cooking, reading,
sewing, remodeling their home, camping, puzzling, and spending time with her
family. She was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church
and Alexis Women's Club.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28,
2016, at Wise Family ~ Hoover Hall
Funeral Home in Alexis, Illinois. The family will be available prior to
the service for a brief visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be
in the Alexis Cemetery Alexis, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the
North Henderson United Methodist Church or the Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance
