He was born December 21, 1942 in Galesburg, the son of Ivan Dale
“Sandy” and Lois M. Anno Derry. He married Erma Sebree Wade on November
1, 1981 in Abingdon.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Erma; a daughter,
Ann Hare of Pahrump, Nevada; a stepson, Tim Wade of Abingdon; a
stepdaughter, Trisha Wade of Galva; four grandchildren, Brian, Lora,
Amber and Alan; a step-grandson who he helped raise, Travis; two
great-granddaughters; a sister, Joyce (Jack) DeWeese of Galesburg; a
special friend, Jim Dunn of Galesburg; and his dog, Ginger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Martha Deppe.
He grew up in Berwick and attended Roseville schools. He worked
construction in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and later worked at OMC in
Galesburg. He also worked as a machinist at the Parts House and Midas
Muffler retiring in 2013. He attended the Berwick Baptist Church. He
was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He liked NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt,
Jr. fan. He raced go carts and enjoyed bowling in his earlier years.
He also attended area car shows and his step-grandson Travis’s football
games. He enjoyed his many friendships and spending time with family.
Cremation will be accorded. A time to celebrate Richard’s life and
share with his family will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday,
February 4, 2017 at the Abingdon American Legion Post #381.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with
arrangements.
