Sheila J. Danforth, age 81, of Cameron, Illinois; passed away at 7:35 pm on
January 21, 2017 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Sheila was
born on July 26, 1935 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Charles C.
and Iva May Hubbard Boyd. She attended local schools in Galesburg, and graduated
from the Galesburg High School with the class of 1953. She then graduated from
the Burlington School of Nursing in 1956. Sheila then married Ronnie J. "Dan"
Danforth on January 26, 1958 in Cameron, Illinois. He preceded her in death on
August 30, 1985. Sheila worked as a Registered Nurse at Monmouth Hospital from
1956 to 1959. She then stayed at home and raised her three children from 1959 to
1976. Sheila returned to nursing at Applegate Inn Nursing Home of Monmouth and
later at Pinewood Health Care Center from 1976 until her retirement in June of
1995. She was a very involved parent with the former Warren High School as she
served as treasurer of the Warren P.T.C. and was also a member of the Warren
Sports Boosters. As a life long member of the Cameron Christian Church she was
active in the Chi Rho youth group and also helped with Vacation Bible School.
Sheila enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's extra-curricular
activities. She has always enjoyed the outdoors, from camping with the family at
Young's Lake in Kirkwood to caring for her garden and flowers at home in
Cameron. She also enjoyed traveling on many of her trips including her close
friends. Sheila is survived by one son, David B. Danforth of Elk Grove,
Illinois, and two daughters, Julia M. Carlson of Cameron, Illinois, and Paula
(Anthony) Bowling of Cameron, Illinois. There are four grandchildren, Megan
(Alan) Carlson of Cameron, Illinois, Chad (Amanda) Carlson of Nuevo, California,
Sheila Bowling and Danielle Bowling, of Cameron, Illinois. There is one great
grandchild, Luke Carlson of Nuevo, California. She has one brother surviving,
Clyde Boyd of Galesburg, Illinois and her sister in law Shirley and Robert
Dennison of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in her death by her parents,
husband Ronnie, and their daughter, Carol Ann Danforth.
A funeral service will be on at 10:00 am Friday, January 27,2016 at Cameron
Christian Church in Cameron, Illinois. Her family plans visitation at Turnbull
Funeral Home in Monmouth on Thursday, January 26,2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Interment will be in Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron, Illinois. Memorial funds
have been established for either the Cameron Christian Church or the Music
