Audrey A. Lavender, 82, of
Galesburg, died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born June 23,
1934, in Rushville, the daughter of Herman and Ulva (Haun) Taylor.
She married Don Lavender on September 21, 1954 in Quincy.
She is survived by her
husband of over 62 years, Don; four children, Rick Lavender of
Mobile, Alabama, Lori (Sam) Ester of Alexis, Lisa (Chuck) Bankes of
Galesburg, and Lynn Lavender of Chicago; four grandchildren, Melinda
Angelotti, Lindsey Ester, Jarrod Lavender, and Nicole Ester; three
great grandchildren, Addison, Carter, and Camden Angelotti; a sister,
Norma Murphy of Kerrville, Texas; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Taylor of
Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents; two brothers, Harlan Taylor and Charles Taylor;
two sisters, Irene Lancaster and Wanda Mitchell; and a sister-in-law,
Gloria Taylor.
Audrey has lived in
Galesburg since the age of 10. She graduated from Galesburg High
School in 1952. Audrey was a homemaker. She had also worked at the
Orpheum Theatre, was a bookkeeper at Walgreen’s, worked in sales
for Sear’s, and was a line worker at Maytag.
Audrey was of the Baptist
faith. She was a member of the Cottage Hospital Senior Circle and
had attended VNA for several years. In her younger years, Audrey
enjoyed roller skating. Later in life, she enjoyed line dancing.
Family was very important to Audrey and she enjoyed Skyping with her
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 12:30
to 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev.
Jim Ecklund officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial
Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the
