LaVonne
Mae (Holmes) Adams, 84, of Oneida died peacefully at home on Feb. 6,
2017 surrounded by her family.
She
was born on December 30, 1932, the eldest daughter of Robert and
Mabel Rosenberg Holmes. She graduated from R.O.V.A High School in
1950. She married Gale Adams on September 5, 1953 at Immanuel
Lutheran Church of Altona.
She
is survived by her husband of 63 years; two daughters, Sharon (Gerry)
Peterson and Cheryl (David) Erickson; two grandchildren, Jennifer
Peterson and Scott Erickson; two sisters, Marilyn (Charles) Knapp and
Elaine (Terry) Bolin; and one sister-in-law, Joan Adams. She was
preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Maynard Adams,
brother-in-law Gene Cruce, and sister-in-law Virginia Cruce.
LaVonne
began her working life at F&M Bank in Galesburg, then worked
part-time for the Oneida Telephone Company before starting at
Anderson State Bank in 1970. During her 28 years at Anderson State,
she served as both an Assistant Cashier and an Assistant Vice
President.
She
was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught
Sunday School and served as an officer for the Lutheran Church Women
and Women of the E.L.C.A as well as Rachel and Mary Martha Circles.
She enjoyed going dancing, family vacations, and reunions with her
cousins.
Above
all else, LaVonne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She
spent a good majority of her time in the kitchen, and loved nothing
more than to gather friends and family around the table for a meal.
She was a kind, genuine, good-hearted person who never missed an
event her grandchildren were involved in and was always prepared with
a baked good and a hug to ease the bad times or celebrate the good.
The
family would like to say a special thank you to her caregiver, Linda
Pyell, for her invaluable assistance, compassion, comfort, and care
over the last few years.
