Melva E. Spangler

Melva E. Spangler, age 95 of Smithfield, IL passed away on Monday February 6, 2017 at the Care Center of Abingdon in Abingdon, IL.  She was born on November 18, 1921 in Woodburn, IN to Henry and Rose Zook Shanebeck.  She married Kenneth I. Spangler in Ft. Wayne, IN on January 24, 1948 and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2000.  Melva is survived by 1 Son and 1 Daughter – Tom (Tina) Spangler of Avon, IL, Rhoda Spangler of Bushnell, IL, 2 Grandchildren, 1 Great-Grandchild and 1 Brother – Bill Shanebeck of San Diego, CA.  She was also preceded in death by her Parents, and 1 Brother. 

Melva worked as an RN at Saunders Hospital in Avon, IL for over 30 years.  She attended Sinnett Chapel and Checkrow Community Church’s over the years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday February 10, 2017 at the Checkrow Community Church with visitation being held 1 hour prior to the time of services at the Church.  Burial will be in Rigdon Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Checkrow Community Church or to the Care Center of Abingdon.  Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, IL is in charge of arrangements.  Please sign the guestbook or leave condolences at www.martinhollisfh.com.
