He was born January 30, 1926 in Hiteman, Iowa the son of Andrew and Berneice E.
Carroll Vallero. He married Alberta Kilpatrick on July 20, 1979 in Galesburg, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta of Galesburg; his children, Kevin (Joanie) Vallero of
Andalusia, Illinois and Greg (Vickie) Vallero of St. Charles, Missouri, Jake Gilbert of
Knoxville and Sue (Rod) Combs of Galesburg; his sister, Frances Reese of Richland,
Washington; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in
death by a son, Marvin and his brother, Albert.
Joe served in the US Infantry Army as a Pfc. in France during WWII. He received the
Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster to Purple Heart.
Joe had first worked for Swift Company as a meat cutter and Galesburg Glass Company.
He later worked as a sales representative for Distillers and Brewers for many years,
retiring in 1993. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944. He was a member
of the VFW #2257, the Knoxville American Legion Post 749 and the Elks Lodge #894.
He was a man of faith. Joe enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family. In his
younger days he enjoyed boating on the river and was very involved in all his boy’s
activities. He never knew a stranger.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Hinchliff-
Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Visitation will
be 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery with
Military Rites by VFW 2257/Legion 285 Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers
memorials may be made to the Guardian Angel Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s
